For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is
the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16

Special Indulgences

Posted by susanb99 on December 9, 2007

December 8, 2007 — The Catholic pope has authorized “special indulgences” for those who visit the site in Lourdes, France, where an apparition of Mary had appeared over a hundred years ago. Those visiting the site will be able to receive an indulgence, which the Roman Catholic Church teaches can reduce time in purgatory — a reward for doing “good works”.

Indulgences, apparitions of Mary, bowing to the pope’s authority, etc. are not scriptural but that does not keep the pope and his minions from teaching their “traditions”. Since what they believe (traditions) supercede the Words of God in the Bible, the RCC is free to make up any rules they wish.

Protestants, on the other hand, adhere to the Scripture for all their doctrinal beliefs. Unfortunately, that statement is no longer true. The Protestant Liberals (mainline denominations) have used their influence to convince “christians” that the Bible is no longer needed — the social gospel is the most important tool to save the world. Included in that group is the Emergent/Emerging Church. There are a growing number of evangelicals (conservative believers) who are drifting further and further away from the truth of Scripture in order to be more socially accepted. Save the earth; eradicate world-wide sicknesses; give out condoms since abstinance “doesn’t work”; don’t preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, just bring the people to the church building so conversion can be “done right”. Those are the new conservative-liberals (CLs).

Included in the CLs’ agenda are earthly works which translate into heavenly rewards – Special Indulgences. Some examples: if you help an AIDS patient, pay for his/her medicine, etc., God will reward you for being so neighborly. If you give money to a church that has a mission in Africa, God will reward you for being generous. In fact, the CLs believe your rewards are to be realized here on earth — the money you give will multiply one hundred-fold; you will have “good feelings” toward unbelievers; your love-quotient will go sky-high as you “love” people with your time and money. All the while, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is never mentioned.

A good example of CLs is Rick and Kay Warren. Rick says

There is one thing you can do greater than sharing Jesus Christ with somebody: It is to help start a church, because a church will outlast you and everyone else. Online Source

Kay says

They [Saddleback members] felt that our job was to speak to people’s spiritual needs, that the church was about saving souls. I completely disagreed. This [caring for AIDS sufferers] is historically at the heart of our Christian faith.” Online Source

The Warrens do not believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation. They believe that the social gospel, the gospel of instant, special indulgences and rewards, has the power to change lives, to give people the needed lift to make it one more day. All the while the people they are “helping” are on the broad path to destruction.

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2nd Timothy 4:2-4
