‘Bella’: Another ‘Passion of The Christ’?

Posted by susanb99 on November 29, 2007

November 29, 2007 — ‘Bella’ is a movie made by Christian filmmakers and promoted by Rick Warren “The movie of the year”, “Everyone should see this film”. If you watch the trailer, you will experience the emotional pull of the film.

In this pastors.com article, the director is quoted

Though the film’s message isn’t overtly religious, it promotes Christian values… I didn’t want to preach to the choir… I wanted to make this film for people who were hurt and who needed a hand to be lifted up.

He only wanted to help people, and preaching (the Gospel of Jesus Christ?) to the public would have been “preach[ing] to the choir”? The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the ONLY power of God unto salvation. If there isn’t any preaching of Jesus, there isn’t any “help” being given.

I suspect that the filmmakers are Roman Catholic, just like the makers of ‘The Passion of The Christ’. ‘The Passion’ was a Roman Catholic film, pure and simple. The reason for my suspicion? In the pastors.com article, the leading man, Verastegui, is quoted

For a time, Verastegui contemplated moving to the jungle to become a missionary, but a priest encouraged him to stay in Hollywood, a bigger jungle, where he would have more influence.

Verastegui mentions God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. But keep in mind, Roman Catholics also believe in the Trinity. Their terminology is similar to Christians’. But because they come to God through Mary, the sacraments, and the RC Church, they are not Christians. Christians are those who have been regenerated by the Spirit of God ONLY through Jesus Christ according to scripture.

‘Bella’, from watching the trailer and reading the “testimonies”, is a feel-good movie, very much like Warren’s purpose-driven gospel and P.E.A.C.E. Plan. But helping people to feel good, giving them a “lift up” just doesn’t cut it.
